If you like skiing, visit the ski resort Dundret just five kilometers from the hotel. Here are nine slopes of varying severity. In addition, there are ten kilometers of groomed cross-country trails and a ski jump. The ski season at Dundret usually ranges from early November to late April / May. You buy your lift tickets at our reception.
Dundret is also a fantastic mountain for ski touring. Use the Femma road, ski through Sun Valley or take the chairlift. Once on the top a fantastic mountain landscape opens up with a view where you see an eleventh of Sweden, including Sarek National Park and Kebnekaise (highest moutain in Sweden). During weekends and holidays, you can dine or snack at the Mountain Hut. Åke on the top and Dalstugan are two other excursions on Dundret.
“Round Municipality of Gällivare” is a nice ski trail, including a lap around Gällivare and Malmberget in just over twenty kilometers. In total there are about sixty kilometers of ski trails in Gällivare, whereof many are floodlit. In April each year “Dundret Runt” takes place. It is one of the oldest ski races in Sweden. Are you ready to enter one of Europe’s largest copper mines?
Start the tour with a movie and a brief information about the mine’s history and how it has become the grand mine it is today.
Experience the view of the mine from the edge where you see 450 meters down to the open pit for before putting on boots and goggles for the ride down. There you will see the mine in real-time and learn all about the different stages of production.
Northern lights tour on horseback
From October to April there is evening tours where you have chance to see the spectacular Northern Lights from horseback. On clear nights, it is magical to see the stars light up the sky in the dark forest. Galgbackens Iceland Horses in Sakajärvi offers rides for novices and experienced riders. Duration: 2 hours.
